Cristiano Ronaldo has retained the distinction of The Best FIFA Men’s Player on the heels of a stunning campaign that saw the Real Madrid star capture a La Liga title and a second consecutive Champions League triumph.
Ronaldo was honoured with the award during Monday’s ceremony in London, England, besting Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain summer signing Neymar.
The honour – which was created last year in the spirit of the former FIFA World Player of the Year award – is determined by a collection of national team coaches and captains along with media representatives.
Ronaldo won the inaugural distinction last season after leading Portugal to Euro 2016 glory, with Messi finishing second and Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann third.
It’s a deserved honour for Ronald, who achieved accolades with both club and country in 2017. He scored 45 goals in 48 appearances in the calendar year, including a tournament-best 12 in the Champions League as Los Blancos celebrated a third continental conquest in four seasons.
