Report: West Ham open to selling Arnautovic for 45M; targeting Maxi Gomez

by adminJanuary 28, 2019

Marko Arnautovic is free to leave West Ham United this month if the club receives a bid worth 45 million, Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian reports.

Manuel Pellegrini has expressed concern regarding the Austrian’s focus amid links with a transfer to China. The manager omitted Arnautovic from the squad for last weekend’s Premier League defeat to Bournemouth as well as Saturday’s FA Cup tilt against AFC Wimbledon.

A move to the Chinese Super League fell through earlier in January when a 36-million offer from an unnamed team was withdrawn. Steinberg reports that Guangzhou Evergrande have expressed an interest in signing the forward.

If Arnautovic does move on, it would allow West Ham to increase their efforts to sign Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo before the transfer window shuts.

The East London side is considering the possibility of triggering the 43.3-million release clause in the Uruguayan forward’s contract, sources told The Telegraph on Friday.

Gomez, 22, has scored nine times and added five assists in the Spanish top flight this term and would be a club-record signing for West Ham.

Convincing Celta Vigo to part with Gomez could be the biggest challenge, as the Spanish side will reportedly fight to keep him during their LA Liga relegation battle where sit one point above the drop zone.
